Our first request from the city for mulch during the Neighborhood Sweep
turned out great, but the second was another story all together.
When Hans Anderson, our GPOA Secretary and board member, ordered the second
batch he thought the 12 yards worth would be scooped up by neighbors quickly.
But when we saw the two piles sitting in the community center parking lot
we knew we had a problem. The mulch this time was full of large pieces
of wood, rocks and dirt, and even some plastic bottles and tin cans.
Needless to say, not many came to take advantage of the free mulch.
But Hans turned a negative into a positive. He
decided to use the mulch around the community center again, but this time
he used it to set up along the sides of the building to protect against
erosion. Some of it also went out to the edge of the pool fence facing
Caen Street. It was a lot of work on his part and it will help protect
our common community areas.
We thank Hans for his efforts and hard work. He is truly a good neighbor. |
